In this episode, I'm interviewing Dr. Indrakshi Ray about her research into data security at Colorado State University.  Her insight into the importance  of protecting online information highlights the need for robust systems to prevent attackers from accessing sensitive information.  Our conversation touches on the vulnerability of online applications, as well as the expansion of the internet to unexpected places.

Dr. Jessica Metcalf, assistant professor in the department of Animal Science at CSU, joins us to talk about her research into the gut microbiome, decomposition and forensic investigation. Her work has applications from investigating archaeological finds to providing crucial evidence in the justice system.

On this episode, I sit down with Shelby, a liberal arts student studying Journalism and Media Communications at Colorado State. Shelby had the opportunity as an undergraduate student to travel abroad to Rwanda and Uganda to document the collaborative work being done by CSU’s Energy Institute and Xpower to provide microgrid technology and energy access across these countries. As a member of CSU’s media team, Shelby was able to see first hand how CSU’s microgrid technology impacted the civilians of these foreign countries. On the show we will be talking about Shelby’s trip to Africa, her experience with the culture, the people, and the microgrid project aimed at providing electricity and power to thousands.

On this episode, I sit down with Joe Von Fischer a Professor of Biology & Zach Weller an Assistant Professor in Statistics at Colorado State. Both Joe and Zach have been working on a project with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) and Google Earth Outreach to pinpoint climate pollution in metropolitan cities. Their mission with this project is it to establish faster and cheaper ways to find and assess methane leaks under city streets.

Their approach has been tested in a dozen cities across the U.S. and today on the show they will be talking about how their project came to fruition and how they created their innovative method in quantifying methane leaks in urban areas. Along with their research, we will dive into a personal conversation about both researcher’s explorative attitudes and how they’ve evolved into prevalent game changers in measuring natural gas leaks across the country.

On this episode, I sit down with the Director of the Community Literacy Center- Tobi Jacobi, and one of the center’s interns Bree Jones, to discuss the CLC’s mission to create alternative literacy opportunities that work to educate and empower underserved populations. With some background on the CLC, we will then discuss Tobi and Bree’s roles and some of the heartfelt moments they’ve experienced while orchestrating the center’s Speakout Program.
