In this episode of the Generations Hunt Podcast, I sit down with Dave McChesney to discuss an exciting new project aimed at helping hunters prepare for the upcoming season. Dave, who has transitioned from a traditional hunter to a mobile hunter, shares his insights and experiences. We introduce the concept of "Stay Out September" (SOS), a framework designed to ensure hunters complete their preparations in August, allowing the woods to settle before the season starts.
Week 1: Planning starts now
What about no previous scouting or spot prep?
Get out there as much as possible
Find early season food sources
Stay out of bedding areas you plan to hunt early season
Identify rut cruising spots
Set cams
Camera inventory. Do you have enough SD cards and batteries? Are your straps in good condition? Can you switch to paracord to hide them more? Good Sit Mobile mounts to hang them high. Clean the lenses and flash. Are you going to paint them?
Pick out your spots. How many cameras do you have? Do you have soaker spots for season long inventory? What spots are you planning on hunting early season? Do you need to set mock scrapes? Do you have your scents ready? Are your trees prepped? Access mapped out? Proper wind identified?
Do you need any last minute work done on your bow? Shops will be packed! New strings and repairs will take longer. Get ahead of the pressure.
