A single mother of an autistic son, Alessandra Bester is the CEO and founder of NONO, a functional food company. She invented functional chocolate for her son who has autism, celiac, epilepsy and various allergies, and started NONO after other parents asked her to make some for their children with special needs. Alessandra shares her Polish mom Regina's lessons on caring for others without giving up oneself; moms taking care of themselves, so children don't feel like they must; the possibility of a happy new life after decades of challenges; the importance of addressing issues in the family; purposeful neglect; and surviving extreme circumstances by staying calm.
