A VERY NEW AND POWERFUL SLANT ON A FAMILIAR SUBJECT! DESTINED TO BECOME A LITERARY CLASSIC!
I read Steel in the Cotton when it was in manuscript form and Mr. Allen was hoping it could be turned into a movie. It should be a movie. It would make a great film. However, until that happens, I would hope that everyone who enjoys an amazing book will read this one. I feared it was going to be another attempt to outdo Gone With the Wind, or another rehash of what we already know about slave days. I could not have been more wrong. The setting is beautifully established, the plot is new and fresh, the view of slavery absolutely refreshing and reeks of reality. The characters are so well drawn, the situations so gripping, it has all the makings of a literary classic. One of the finest stories I've ever read...and I read a lot.
Great look at historical possibilities!
This is a historical romance set in the history of the civil War. It portrays the conflict and ;the growing together of true friends regardless of circumstances. Prepare to be totally taken in by this book. It is not a history but uses history as the backdrop. Enjoy.
Would make a great movie! Dave
If you have even a slight interest in civil war history this book is a must read . The characters really come alive and you feel you are living back in those times . Would make a great movie ! Dave DeGraff
Another "great" book by Allen
Another great book by a terrific writer who really knows his stuff. Many other books written by this author shows a well rounded grasp of history.
