It's important to always remember this one simple rule when stepping into a new family as a Step-Dad. You can't control what happened before you arrived so don't take it personal when negativity and resentment get thrown your way for no reason. It's not about you and it's more about them. It's about their inability to deal with their past so they bring it into the new relationship. Take a step back Step-Dad and focus on bettering yourself first so you don't make the same mistake.
