I found that the deepest suffering carries with it a gift: An opportunity to embrace boundless empathy.

My prayer for unconditional love and empathy was answered, but not until I hit bottom. From the darkness, I found myself empathizing with the outcasts, the criminals, the shunned. In that moment, I remembered the prayer, and the ocean of love pouring out of me made my personal pain worth it.
