The Mike Hosking Breakfast

Steven Borowiec: North and South Korea deal no guarantee

Listen Later

There may be documents signed between the North and South Korea leaders - but there's no guarantee they will be enforced.
Kim Jong-un will meet with Moon Jae-in today in a historic moment - the first time a North Korean leader has crossed into the South since the 1950s.
Korea correspondent Steven Borowiec told Mike Hosking even if they make a deal on some kind of permanent peace treaty, neither country can force the other to comply.
He says there will be a lot of scepticism if talks include denuclearisation.
"If Kim Jong-un agrees that they will make some steps towards getting rid of their nukes, I mean based on North Korea's behaviour to this point we have no reason to expect that will happen."
