In a thrilling fourth quarter, Richmond snatched a 13-point victory over Sydney at the MCG, reinvigorating their season. Key player Jack Graham scored two spectacular goals, helping the Tigers recover from a major deficit and secure a critical 12.16 (88) to 11.9 (75) win. Despite Sydney’s strong start, leading by 26 points halfway through the second term, Richmond was able to clinch the lead 10 minutes into the fourth quarter. This leaves Sydney six points away from the top half of the ladder.
Collingwood managed to secure a 12-point victory over the Western Bulldogs after a vigorous half-time switch-up during the Friday night fixture at Marvel Stadium. Though trailing initially, Collingwood leveraged their third-quarter performance, scoring six goals to one, and emerged victorious with a final score of 13.11 (89) to 11.11 (77). Despite a stellar combined performance from Aaron Naughton, Cody Weightman, and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, the Bulldogs couldn't thwart a surging Collingwood, which now stands five games clear in the top four.
Jack Gunston marked his comeback to AFL with an impressive performance, scoring six goals and helping Brisbane to a resounding 81-point victory over West Coast at the Gabba on Saturday. The Lions held a comfortable lead throughout the match and were able to secure their eighth consecutive home victory in 2023, keeping the pressure on Collingwood and Port Adelaide at the top of the table. Despite being without Josh Dunkley, Brisbane demonstrated their depth with strong performances from Will Ashcroft, Cam Rayner, Lachie Neale, and Harris Andrews.
In a stunning AFL match, Port Adelaide triumphed over Gold Coast with a nine-goal third quarter, extending its club-record winning streak to 13 games. Despite initially trailing by six points, Port Adelaide turned the game around with a 32-minute purple patch to secure a 33-point victory, ending with a score of 16.10 (106) to 11.7 (73). The victory was largely attributed to Connor Rozee's standout performance, which included 26 disposals and two goals, and the team celebrated milestones of Charlie Dixon (200 games) and Jeremy Finlayson (100 games).
In a significant AFL match, Geelong delivered a blow to North Melbourne with a 62-point win, breaking into the top eight before a critical game against Essendon. The game ended with a score of 19.11 (125) to 9.9 (63) in Geelong's favor. Despite a promising start from North Melbourne with two of the first three goals, Geelong swiftly gained control of the game with an 11-goal run.
In the Australian Football League (AFL), Essendon secured a crucial 18-point win against Adelaide, improving their chances of reaching the finals. The victory saw Essendon move up to fifth on the ladder, above Adelaide, the Western Bulldogs, and St Kilda. Despite Adelaide's reputation for having a strong offense, Essendon managed to maintain a 37-point half-time lead and defended their advantage in the second half of the game. The win was characterized by excellent performances from Zach Merrett and Darcy Parish, who each racked up 39 disposals, and Peter Wright, who scored three goals.
