Sticky Jazz Interview Josie Cotton

Listen Later

The "Queen of Camp", Josie Cotton is a staple of the New Wave genre and has been just below the mainstream radar on purpose for 40+ years. She kicked off her careear in music in the film "Valley Girl", with songs "Johnny Are you Queer" and "He Could Be The One". Johnny became a celebrated anthem in the LGBTQ community but was also misunderstood by others.
She proudly holds the title for being "Banned in Amsterdam", and want's that on her headstone.
She has covered all kinds of subjects, and even done an album "Invasion of the B-girls" that was covers of B-grade horror film title tracks.
Her newest release is called "Pussycat Babylon" and covers some very personal issues from her life, in a very special "Josie Cotton" way. Empowering girls, Milwaukee, Hong Kong, Bruce Lee and even Iggy Pop are subjects on the album.
