Beautiful Blasphemy
One of the finest and underrated, underexposed and almost unknown, "The Nails" are in fact one of the bands you should have heard so much of, but they never got the radio play.
New York City's finest "New Wave" act from the 80s, known for their hit "88 Lines About 44 Women", and "Things you left behind", they created a wonderful catalog of incredible music, twisted lyrics, dark images, and everything you wished you knew about when it was happening.
I have been a lifelong fan of these guys because of the music, and just the obscurity of such a band, their music is bleak, powerful, witty, and enough to make you wish you had actually lived that deviant lifestyle they sing about.
I got to interview Steve O'Rourke and David Kaufman of the band, while other members were trying to find a way into the interview. The stories behind the music are not inspiring, but affirming, of people who just "Carped their Diem".
