Stiff person syndrome (SPS) is a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and profound muscle spasms throughout the body. It is characterized by continuous contraction of the muscles, resulting in a painful posture referred to as a “stiff person posture”. Symptoms can appear and worsen abruptly, without warning. Symptoms may include stiffness, muscle spasms, an arched back, stiff arms, stiff legs, and painful joints.
