This week, Dr. Scott Gottlieb and Dr. Anthony Fauci are giving a much higher number of media interviews than is normal where they are plainly promoting the idea that the US could have a vaccine by year-end through using their credibility to simply state that it is possible. In contrast, Merck CEO Ken Frazier – who is accountable to his board and shareholders - commented this week in the FT that a 12-18 month timeline for a vaccine is “very aggressive.”
