Stoicism - Six Pack Philosophy

Listen Later

Let’s get stoic today. Plug up your tear ducts and wipe any hint of emotion from your face.
Just kidding. We are discussing stoicism in this week’s episode, but one of the things we’ll be covering is the cultural misunderstanding of the goals and philosophies of classical stoics. Many of the philosophies we study are more in the realm of thought exercises/experiments. However, stoicism was developed in the same vane as many other Greek philosophies in that it’s goal was to discover the key to achieving the greatest good (eudaimonia). This meant that in addition to being an exploratory philosophy, it was also a prescriptive philosophy, laying out guidelines for how its followers could contribute to achieving eudaimonia.
