All types of entities now demand your social security number (or last four of your social) as a means of identification or verification. This needs to stop. There are viable alternative means to verify and identify.
Also, consumers have already provided too much information in the form of phone numbers, addresses, credit card numbers, emails, dates of birth, etc. Companies have this information and can already easily identify customers through all of the data they have collected.
This is abusive, especially in light of how much harm customers face in the event a bad actor gets a hold of their SSN. Further, when you add in that it is proven that even the largest corporations can't keep sensitive customer information safe from hackers, social security numbers should never be collected.
