Tonight's special guest is Yisroel Picker from Jerusalem, Israel, a Psychotherapist. He works with survivors specializing in helping children and young adults understand and improve their own thought processes. Although he's not himself a survivor, he obviously knows his stuff .. especially in the area of CSA prevention. Yisroel has written extensively on the topic. "Working with my child clients about their thought process has shown me that there is a lot in the area of Child Sex Abuse Prevention that is lacking," he says. "Parents aren't leaving open doors for reporting, and some children are taking some of the information too literally." He goes on, "My goal with my clients is to enable them to understand how their minds work. Together we try to find ways to improve their thought processes, helping them improve their functioning in all areas of their lives. While others treat the effects, I work with my clients to treat the cause." And that, of course, is the point. "My work with kids has enabled me to see and understand how they think and I share this information with parents. This enables them to better understand their child and parent them more accordingly." Yisroel concludes, "I speak to parents about laying the groundwork to ensure that their child WILL be fine, and if something happens, that the child will feel safe enough to speak with their parent."
