DMV Spotlight shines a light on drowning prevention efforts by Stop Drowning Now. Guest Jim Spiers, a water safety expert and president of the 501c-3 explains there is both fatal drowning and non-fatal drowning adding that drowning is both swift and silent and unlike movie scenes of screaming for help. Spiers notes that drowning is vastly under-reported in the US and around the world.
Stop Drowning now offers free dry land curriculum for teachers and educators with a mission to teach children how to avoid drowning with lessons on floating and danger avoidance. Spiers also outlines simple steps for those with pool access to prevent drowning. Stop Drowning Now also has municipal resources for the Cities program to help prevent drowning in urban areas.
