The Design Startup Show

Stop Imposter Syndrome

Listen Later

Hey, design starters, a quick one today on imposter syndrome and content that you want to put out, but sometimes you hit the wall, right? Or your most times you hit a wall and don't know what to say. So when it comes to getting your words out and you know, that being consistent with content is important to build your business, grow your business leads and keep them coming.

Right. Which works for me. But how do you. Kind of have rolling content all the time without feeling like there's nothing to say, there's nothing right. Or this nodding to put out because there are others who are possibly better than you at that topic. Well, what I do now is, well, I also feel that way even now, but I felt that way more in the past simply because I kept looking at the people and learning from people who have always been better than myself.

That's it, there are also people who are still learning a few levels or are a level or many, many thousand levels below you. So what I'm doing now, it's more of, pretty much just working in public. So. Rather than trying to advise others who are levels below you, or rather than trying to be like people levels above you while you can do, which is what I'm doing is to put out things that I have been doing along the way.

Right. I'm sure you want to grow a business. And there are things that you are doing activities that are meant to grow your business. I'm sure you don't just sit all day and do nothing. I'm sure you try to. You know, get some sales. You, you try to talk to people, you even, if not really talking to people, you are also dealing with operations delivery and you find certain mistakes.

You find some results and you find some success throughout the day. I'm sure. So one good way is to take down notes, right? Log it down. Early in the day and towards the end of the day. So it was the end of the day. You probably have learned some lessons, do some review, again, ask yourself questions, like, okay, what have I done today?

You put it down. What are the things I've learned by doing all these? You put it down. And then the last part is you ask yourself, what can I do better the next day to make this better? Right. To give more results, give more success. And these are notes. When you put down can be turned into content. It's like, you don't have to do, uh, you know, for example, a social media posts or LinkedIn polls, always telling people what to do.

No, you don't have to, but you can just mention about your learnings for today. And you don't have to say, Oh, today I learned that, you know, this, this is you. You don't have to say it like that so explicitly, but you can start off with that in your notes. And then you tweak to, to a polls, you trick on a polls, such that the content is relevant to your audience and something that people can take away and relate for that day.

So, so one thing about audiences, I mentioned that, you know, you treat your audience as one, but. Sometimes trying to treat your audience can get, let you get stuck as well. Right? Can make you get stuck. And that's for me as well. And I feel that way. So sometimes I don't write from my audience. Sometimes I just write to write.

Sometimes I just write to put things out and just share my learnings. It can be anyone. They don't have to be people who are looking for design. They can be people who are engineers. They can be people who don't value design. They can be anyone. I'm helping them. Right. So we just get to know each other from there.

It's fine as well. So mindset is just to make daily reflections and, and tell people what you're working on on for that day, while you have learned for that day. So working public for me for now is the best way to put things out and put content out on a daily, consistent basis.
