We are taught the safety rule "stop, look, and listen" from a very young age. It is a simple instruction designed to keep us safe before crossing a busy street, yet as adults, we often forget to apply this same wisdom to our spiritual lives. We rush headlong through our days, moving from one task to the next with barely a breath in between. We navigate the chaotic traffic of deadlines, family obligations, and social pressures without ever pausing to check our bearings. In our haste, we often miss the very presence of God, who is waiting to guide us safely to the other side.
