To understand why germ-x and most soaps actually do more harm than good, you need to understand what you're applying it on: your skin and it's microbiome. First and foremost, your skin is the largest organ. It covers your entire body. That's a lot of skin. In fact, it's your body's first line of defense, even before your immune system takes action. It's a sheath around your bones and muscles and very vital internal organs. To protect itself and bolster your defenses, it has its own ecosystem. Not to worry! They are harmless and even beneficial to us. now, before I bore you, simply put, this is the same thing that happens when you take antibiotics. They kill all manner of bacteria in your gut. It doesn't distinguish the good bacteria (which makes up to 80% of your immune system) from the bad, and because of that, while you take antibiotics, you are more prone to getting sick then someone who doesn't wash their hands. Sounds scary right!
