Radarman Second Class Zack Martin finds himself with time for reflection while taking a smoke break on a moonlit early morning aboard a Navy aircraft carrier. Yet, another bungled job by a shipmate leads to a life-altering decision by the brass and, before long, Martin may have the opportunity he's always wanted. In hindsight, however, he might have wanted to stay right where he was.

Drawing on author Bob Stockton's 20 years as a Navy man, Stories from the US Navy: I. A Suicide in the Mediterranean puts listeners in the heart of the action aboard an aircraft carrier and its dedicated crew.

Bob Stockton served starting in 1957, sailing the seven seas while aboard surface vessels (destroyers), diesel-electric submarines, aircraft carriers, auxiliary vessels, reconnaissance attack squadrons, and patrol gunboats in Vietnam. After retiring as a chief petty officer, Bob earned undergraduate and graduate degrees and has worked as an adjunct graduate instructor, shipyard welder's helper, epidemiologist, pharmaceutical trainer, small business owner, and radio host.

Now considered fully disabled because of exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam, the Trenton, New Jersey, native makes his home in Jacksonville, Florida, near his three children and three grandchildren. This novella is the first in a series of three Bob hopes to publish by the end of 2014.

Excellent stories that captured the time and place

This was a story very close to me as I was a Radarman on multiple Destroyers off of Vietnam during the same time frame. I am just waiting for the next volume as the story can not end as it did in volume two. My ships then were the USS Brownson DD-868 (RD3), USS Chevalier DD-805 (RD2) and the USS Agerholm DD-826 (RD1) followed by 28 years and retirement as a CWO3. Excellent stories that captured the time and place.

Author, Bob Stockton is 4 for 4 in his career as an author! His latest, Stories from the US Navy: I A Suicide in the Mediterranean, is his first short story and proved to be a great read, The story line flowed nicely as I felt as if I actually knew the characters.

I never served in the armed forces but no worries, military or not this is a great read and easy to follow. A must read!
