Set in Israel, one of the bird capitals of the world with the highest number of migrating birds anywhere, this story brings the beauty of nature in Israel to life and highlights an unusual part of Israeli life - the kibbutz.
Members Reviews:
The story is beautifully illustrated in vibrant watercolors
Tami Lehman-Wilzig's book, Stork's Landing, is a new book about Israel's massive bird migrations and what happens to one stork whose wing is broken when caught in a net protecting the kibbutz fishpond. It's based on a true story (with fictional development). The story is beautifully illustrated in vibrant watercolors. The book teaches good Jewish values regarding Tzaar Baalei Chaim (ethical treatment of animals) and perseverance. English speaking children (and their caregivers) will enjoy it.
Stork's Landing
A beautifully written story about a bird who finds her purpose with the help of a little girl and her father. The water color illustrations enhance the story. I am looking forward to reading this to my granddaughter. Perfect book to add to any family library.
Five Stars
Teacher daughter loves this book ~ very well done ~ she highly recommends to parents/teachers/children of all ages/grandparents
Storks fly through Israel
The storks fly in the skies in Israel while they are making their way from Africa to Europe for the summer. They always land on the kibbutz so they can rest. Mayaâs abba (father) and other fish farmers need to cover the ponds with nets so they will not eat the fish. When a stork gets injured in a net, Mayaâs abba tries to help the bird and Maya also suggests something that some people might not expect. A male stork tries to get the injured birdâs attention but she will not come to him and something new happens with him that the injured bird will be able to help with later.
The setting of the story was not mentioned any place in the book that I noticed, although there were clues it was in Israel. This should be an interesting story for children to learn about storks in Israel, and how to try to protect the food when they are there. The story makes a connection between storks and their babies as well. Maya was very interested in the birds and her and her abba were able to make some room for the injured bird, the male bird, and his babies in their lives. I believe the illustrations did a great job of showing a childâs fascination with birds in Israel.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a free copy of this book from Kar-Ben Publishing. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Lovely and Insightful Book
This lovely book will sensitize children to care for animals. While recently on a trip to a bird sanctuary in Israel, I had the chance to see these and many other species of birds. Reading Stork's Landing brings those amazing birds to mind.
