Mercer's excitement is immediate, but Atlas arrives to ground the moment with a critical question nobody has answered yet: what does this actually cost the body. The chapter holds both reactions at once, wonder and caution, as the three lay out everything currently known about Theta across the city, the Grove, Sky Forge, and the unsettling confirmation that Iron Horse is now aware the frequency exists.

Downtown, Jarika and Moab sit with the weight of what Maizen handed off in the previous chapter, working through how to protect Theta sleep from infiltration now that secrecy alone can't be trusted. Their conversation turns into something more personal when Moab finally asks about her history with Mercer, and Jarika answers plainly for the first time, naming what they built together and how he left with it. It is a quiet, unhurried scene that gives her grief room to be ordinary rather than dramatic, before the night shifts hard with Maizen's frantic arrival.

Maizen reveals she's been having visions through Theta sleep, something no one in the city has ever experienced before, and one of them has already proven true. What she describes next is the real gut-punch of the chapter, Iron Horse testing people because they cannot access Theta on their own, with plans to use natural conduits as forced channels first in the city, then the Grove, then Sky Forge. It reframes the entire threat: this was never just surveillance; it was always going to come down to harvesting what they can't otherwise reach.

The chapter closes on the detail that changes everything practically, Maizen's vision of Ryker arriving in Jarika's office with the document, safe and successful. It's the proof Mercer needed to move forward, and the final pages follow Ryker preparing for his first true long-distance jump, no longer practicing on rocks and coffee cups but reaching across an entire city toward people he's never met, guided only by the thread and the people who believe it'll hold.
