Streaming the Storms - Reporting Weather Events in the Digital Age

Listen Later

Storms, wildfires, floods, tornadoes – we are used to seeing these extreme weather events on our screens with increasing frequency. Nowadays, it’s not the footage captured by large news organizations that proves the most dramatic, but the smartphone video taken by an unsuspecting homeowner when a tornado strikes nearby, or golf-ball-sized hailstones hammer the back yard. So, when it comes to reporting these events, what has changed for newsrooms? How has social media impacted on the gathering of weather information? Joining Laura Byrne to discuss these changes is David Neal, a meteorologist with Weather Nation TV, as well as our own KC Wildmoon and Joe Galvin.
