“Strengthened by Love”
Daniel 10:19
“Do not be afraid, you who are highly esteemed,” he said. “Peace! Be strong now; be strong.” When he spoke to me, I was strengthened and said, “Speak, my lord, since you have given me strength.”
We often try to manufacture our own strength. When faced with overwhelming seasons, daunting decisions, or relentless stress, the world tells us to "pull ourselves up by our bootstraps" or simply endure. But as Daniellearned, true spiritual and emotional strength doesn't start with our own grit—it starts with God's voice.
Before Daniel was given the command to be strong, he was given a reminder of his identity: "You who are highly esteemed" (or in other translations, "O man greatly loved").
God didn't tell Daniel to pull it together first; He sent a messenger to reassure him of how deeply valued he was. Notice what happened next: “When he spoke tome, I was strengthened.” The word itself imparted the power Daniel needed to stand, listen, and obey. Once Daniel was strengthened by God's reassurance, his response shifted from panic to open readiness: "Speak...since you have given me strength."
At its core, Daniel 10:19 reveals how God restores a weary soul—not by demanding human effort first, but by pouring out His love, peace, and strength. It teaches us a foundational spiritual principle: Reassurance precedes responsibility.
When you feel drained, exhausted, or fearful, remember that God does not ask you to power through in your own reserve. When life leaves you overwhelmed, exhausted,or anxious, God does not ask you to power through on your own reserve. Peace and strength flow from knowing you are cherished by the Sovereign God of theuniverse. His word brings life to weary souls and steady feet to shaking knees. Your identity fuels your strength when God grounds you in His love before He calls you to step into battle or bear a burden. Strength comes through His presence because you don't have to summon peace on your own; His spoken word and presence provide it. Real strength begins when you pause, remember that you are deeply loved, and allow His peace to quiet your fears first. Only then are you truly equipped to face whatever comes next.
