1 Samuel 29-30 show God protecting David from a bad situation and then strengthening him after a painful loss. David is rejected by the Philistine leaders in chapter 29, but that rejection actually keeps him from fighting against Israel. Then in chapter 30, David returns to Ziklag and finds everything burned and his family taken. He is crushed, but he strengthens himself in the Lord.
