Stripers Stacked, Crappie Scattered - Your Lake Texoma Fishing Report for May 4, 2025

Listen Later

Good morning from Lake Texoma, this is Artificial Lure with your local fishing report for May 4, 2025.

We are looking at a mild spring day with surface water temperatures right around 62 degrees. The lake is up several feet thanks to recent rains, which means there is a lot of mud and floating debris, so folks, please be careful out there when navigating. Sunrise hit just after 6:30 am, and sunset will roll in around 8:15 pm, giving us a long day on the water to chase those fish.

Striper fishing is the highlight right now. With the shad spawn in full swing, you will find the fish stacked up shallow on rocky banks, especially early in the morning. Live shad are the bait of choice, and fishing with swimbaits is also producing some solid catches. Look for birds working the banks and pay attention to surface activity that will point you to active schools. Stripers are holding on flats and ledges in 25 to 35 feet of water, but do not overlook those mudlines and shallow points either; they have been consistent producers lately. Limits are being caught, and the bite can get fast and furious if you hit it right[1][2][3][5].

Crappie are still in their spawning mode and scattered throughout the lake. Anglers are finding them suspended under docks and hanging near brush in 12 to 15 feet of water, especially in creeks and coves. Jigs and small shad are working best, with dark colors on the muddy side and lighter colors where the water is clear[3][5].

Catfish are showing up along the rocks and shallow flats. Cut shad or prepared baits in 5 to 12 feet near points and drop-offs are the ticket. Action can be spotty, but persistence pays off. Largemouth and smallmouth bass are picking up as well, hanging around brush and structure near docks and marinas. Try hard baits or plastics, especially in the backs of coves and around docks[5].

For your tackle box today, load up on live shad, swimbaits, and some topwaters for that early bite on stripers. Crappie anglers should bring both jigs and minnows, and catfish folks will want cut bait handy. Spinnerbaits and Texas rigs are good options if you are after bass.

Hotspots for today include the shallow rocky banks around Washita Point and the flats just off the mouth of Soldier Creek. Both areas have been holding good numbers of stripers and offer easy access to deeper ledges.

To sum it up, fishing is great with active fish and plenty of action to be found. Remember to keep an eye out for floating debris with these high water levels and enjoy your day on the big lake. Good luck and tight lines from Artificial Lure, your Lake Texoma fishing expert[1][2][3][5].
