Strong and Courageous | FOUNDRYsermon

What is the hardest thing you have ever had to do? I can make a pretty interesting lift. Once I had to move a 400lb or so locked motorized wheelchair about 30 feet. It was almost impossible. Mentally, that is a different story. I would almost rather stay in the physical realm than think of the mental and emotional places I have had to be in at times.

Impossibility is interesting.

It's one of the best playgrounds for God to work in our lives. Impossibility stretches us…and we all know how God loves to stretch us. One of the greatest stories in scripture is of a family moving halfway across the known world to a new place, all because of a promise that seemed impossible.

After Lot had gone, the Lord said to Abram, "Look as far as you can see in every direction—north and south, east and west. 15 I am giving all this land, as far as you can see, to you and your descendants as a permanent possession. 16 And I will give you so many descendants that, like the dust of the earth, they cannot be counted! 17 Go and walk through the land in every direction, for I am giving it to you." Genesis 13:14-17

There are many reasons this shouldn't happen. Abram didn't have any kids, he was a stranger in the area, and God was talking about a remarkably large piece of land. But this is a story of faithfulness worked out. It is the story of the relationship the people of God have with the places God has called them to.

It's a story about you and me and the places we have found ourselves in. And it is the perfect jumping off point for our conversation about these next places Jesus is asking Foundry to look for.
