Sermon: Can a Man Still Be Brave if He's Afraid?

Scripture: Joshua 1:9; Psalm 56:3-4

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.””

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise— in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭56‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭NIV‬‬

INTRODUCTION: Many people rave but few are brave! 

How to culitvate bravery: 

1. Remember Past Victories...

“The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you.””

2. Embrace Community...

“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭24‬-‭25‬ ‭NIV‬‬

3. Step Out in Faith...

“Every place where you set your foot will be yours: Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the Euphrates River to the Mediterranean Sea.”

‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭11‬:‭24‬ ‭NIV‬‬

4. Trust in God's Promises...

“I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses.”

‭‭Joshua‬ ‭1‬:‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

CONCLUSION: Only the BRAVE possess the promises of God!
