StrongSide Episode 10: Fun and Frustrating with David Castillo

Listen Later

Last week, we chatted quite a bit about the Cowboys defensive coordinator search. I even went so far as to give a whole tiered list for what I’d like them to be looking at. Well, Dallas has been pretty busy since then. Here’s the list of names who have gotten interviews already: Jim Leonhard, Daronte Jones, Ephraim Banda, Aaron Whitecotton, Jonathan Gannon, and my guy Zach Orr. And it keeps growing by the day. Is this a signal that the Cowboys are taking this thing extremely seriously?Remember that whole spiel I did last week about what the Mavericks should be looking for in an Anthony Davis trade? Well, since then, he’s torn ligaments in his hand and was expected to undergo surgery that will keep him out for the season. Or maybe he’s coming back in March. And he’s not getting traded, except now he might be getting traded. Nobody knows. We once again adjust our expectations for an Anthony Davis trade and debate Rich Paul's involvement in the process. Jake Kemp wrote something on Monday that got me thinking: the longer AD is in Dallas, the harder it is going to be for anyone to get closure from the Luka Doncic trade, because he’s living, breathing scar tissue. Is Jake right? Hey, I did some talking, too, about the Rangers just being huge tightwads who needs to sign some bats. You know what happened after that? Chris Young told the media that “I think from a position player standpoint, we feel pretty good.” You know what I think? I think they’re trying to drive me insane. Cowboys Contract Corner. NFL free agency is still a couple of months away, but we live in Dallas and it’s the Cowboys – of course we’re already thinking about it. So with that in mind, we’re going to do something called the Cowboys Contract Corner, in which we zoom in on one player Dallas has to make a decision about and what really goes into that. We’ll start with the obvious one – George Pickens. Of course you want him back on this football team. What are the options for doing so and what are the mechanics for actually making it work? Then we are joined by the incredibly talented David Castillo to talk about Thomas Harley's slump, Robo's snub, and an incredibly undefinable yet very successful bunch of Dallas Stars under Glen Gulutzan. ---------------------------------------Like and subscribe to our channel if you enjoy StrongSide. If you'd like to read even more great journalism about Dallas sports then please consider subscribing to D Magazine at dmagazine.comSubscribe to the StrongSide newsletter for weekly updates on the sports happenings in Dallas https://www.dmagazine.com/site/newsletters/Studio: Haymaker Studio in FriscoProducer: Julian Dean and Matt CzizekHosts: Mike Piellucci and Mike Marshall
