I didn’t expect to be talking about a December game involving the Mavericks and the Utah Jazz, but then again, I also didn’t expect Cooper Flagg to set an NBA record for most points scored by an 18-year-old in a single game. He dropped 42 on Monday, along with 7 rebounds and 6 assists, and I think we can safely call this the first special Cooper Flagg game. The Dallas Cowboys, whose season is effectively over after losing to the Minnesota Vikings and J.J. McCarthy, who is terrible. Technically, the Cowboys are in this if the Eagles drop their remaining games, but we know that’s not happening. So: what should we be hoping for out of the three remaining games this season? The most accomplished professional football coach in Dallas announced his retirement on Monday. I am talking, of course, about Bob Stoops, who led your Arlington Renegades to an XFL championship in 2023, which is a hell of a lot more than anyone else has done around here in 30 years. The College Football Playoff begins this weekend, and being the College Football Playoff curmudgeon that I am, I’m having trouble getting excited about the opening round.
