Welcome to this episode of In My Truth, where your host (serial entrepreneur and truth seeker) Sarah Riegelhuth is joined by Jo Hodson.
Sarah and Jo initially tried to record this episode a few weeks ago while Sarah was in Mexico, sitting on the floor in her Airbnb’s laundry room and continually getting interrupted by the wi-fi. In take two of the episode, they get an inside look into the untruths Jo is working through: struggling with the "Too Much"-ness of being, exploring her ADHD and her internal stories around disappointing people.
Jo Hodson was first drawn to In My Truth and Sarah through Instagram and immediately felt drawn to the concept, resonating that finding our truth and our stories, and consequently sharing them is a fascinating thing to dive into.
Jo originally worked in architecture but didn’t find it was her calling in life - she stepped into the industry believing it was something she should do because it was ‘credible’ in the world of design. When she made that realisation Jo, always a creative, quit that life and launched into a journey of finding out who she actually is. Now, Jo is trained as a health coach, a Brene Brown fan and deeply interested in mindset work. It’s taken her a long time to bring together her passions in food, writing, design and mindset work, but it’s starting to form a cohesive bigger picture.
By showing up on In My Truth in this episode, Jo hopes to trigger something in others to taken them on a journey of exploring themselves further - let’s dive in!
How can you be more present with your untruth?
In this episode, Sarah Riegelhuth and Jo Hodson explore being in truth and authenticity, and how they can open up space for themselves and for others within the podcast. They also dive into their untruths and stories around:
Being present
Intensity, overwhelming others, and feeling the need to reign ourselves in
Narcissistic relationships, glossing over red flags and justifying behaviour
Living unapologetically versus containing and curtailing ourselves
The “Too Much”-ness of Being
ADHD
Struggling with disappointing people
External validation and trying to receive that in the ways we live
Knowing how to get the guy, tempering who we are and not knowing who we actually are
Owning who and how we are
Living up to people’s perceptions of us
Setting boundaries and saying No
Letting out too much of ourselves too soon
The opposite of Too Much
Judging ourselves and confirmation bias
Validating ourselves without external input
Yoga and being human
Guilt and shame
Channeling our excess energy
Not meeting expectations
"I know I experience life quite intensely, and when something catches my attention… I’m there."
“I don’t want to let people down, so I’ll say No to myself instead of saying No to them”
Remember you’re not alone, and there is hope, even though it may not feel that way at times. Talk to someone, a friend or family member and let them support you. Reach out to a professional. Do whatever you need to do to start your journey back to feeling good.
