What if the thing keeping you stuck isn't your job—but the word “once”?
Once work slows down. Once you save more money. Once you feel confident. Once you know your business will work.
In this episode, recorded from my phone while sitting in my unfinished house waiting for the internet guy, we're talking about why your corporate exit doesn't have to begin with quitting your job.
I'm sharing four steps you can start taking now to build a business around the expertise you already have, validate your idea, and begin creating income before putting your financial security on the line.
You don't have to have everything figured out.
You just have to stop waiting for “once” and take the next step.
What happens when the life you carefully planned suddenly goes completely off schedule?
I thought I was taking a two-week break. Instead, I bought a 1960s house in Alabama, moved across state lines, helped my parents move, made an unexpected second trip back to North Carolina—and discovered that my new house needed a whole lot more work than I anticipated.
And somewhere in the middle of the moving trucks, renovations, new roof, electrical work, HVAC replacement, and complete lack of routine, my business had to take a back seat.
A few years ago, that would have terrified me.
Because corporate Holly believed she had to constantly show up, prove her worth, and demonstrate her commitment—even when life was happening around her.
This time, I did something different.
I let life happen.
In this episode, I'm sharing an honest update about where I've been, what this transition has taught me about leaving corporate, and why building a business around your life—not building your life around your business—matters so much.
I'm also sharing what’s ahead: rebuilding my little 1960s house, rebuilding parts of myself along the way, returning to the podcast, and creating a new space on Substack where I can share even more of this journey.
Maybe the life you're dreaming about won't go exactly according to plan.
Mine certainly hasn't.
But maybe that's part of building a life that's finally your own.
There’s a lot changing around here—and I’d love to bring you along for it.
Follow me on Instagram, and LinkedIn for more behind-the-scenes of building my business, rebuilding my little 1960s house, and figuring out what it really looks like to create a life outside of corporate.
And if you want the more personal side of the story, come find me on Substack at Holly Powell Co. That’s where I’ll be sharing the raw, honest stories, lessons, and thoughts that don’t always make it onto the podcast or social media. You can also send me an email [email protected]
This next chapter is about more than leaving corporate. It’s about figuring out what you want your life to look like once you finally have the freedom to build it.
Come build it with me.

The salary. The bonus. The stock that vests next spring. The match you'd be leaving on the table.
None of that is small. And none of it is the enemy, either.
If you have ever told yourself you'll leave "once the bonus hits" or "once the stock vests" — and quietly known that date keeps moving — this episode is going to hit different.
Because here's the truth, friend...
You've been treating the very thing keeping you stuck like it's untouchable. Like it belongs to the toxic workplace instead of to you. But that paycheck was never theirs to hold hostage. It's yours — and it can build the exact runway that sets you free, if you finally decide to redirect it on purpose.
But here's what nobody has told you yet: the handcuffs only feel golden because they're indefinite. The moment you put a real number and a real date on them, they stop being a cage and start being a bridge.
You don't need a windfall. You need a plan for the money you already have.
If you are the breadwinner and the weight of that paycheck has kept you quiet for far too long — this episode is for you.
MISSED LAST WEEK'S EPISODE?
P.S. — If you know a woman who's the breadwinner in her home, staying for the bonus or the vesting date, and quietly wondering if the money is worth what it's costing her — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤

You were told you were ready.
Then the role opened up. And you didn't even get the interview.
If you have spent weeks replaying that moment, wondering what you did wrong, wondering if you're actually as good as you thought you were — this episode is going to hit different.
Because here's the truth, friend...
That silence you've been sitting in? It wasn't empty. You filled it. With every worst-case story about yourself you could think of. What you didn't realize is that the rejection had almost nothing to do with you at all — and everything to do with a toxic workplace that was never going to see your full worth in the first place.
But here's what nobody has told you yet: being passed over isn't a verdict on your value. It's a closed door on a role that was always too small for what God actually has for you.
You don't need their approval. You need your own clarity.
If you have ever felt undervalued despite doing everything right — this episode is for you.
P.S. — If you know a woman who was just passed over and is quietly questioning everything about herself right now — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤

You are not "meets expectations."
You are not the same story you heard in last year's review, just dressed up in nicer language this time around.
If you have sat across from your manager, heard every reason you're doing a great job, and still walked away feeling completely unvalued — this episode is going to hit different.
Because here's the truth, friend...
You keep waiting for the review that finally changes something. Waiting for "just a little more" to turn into the promotion, the raise, the recognition you've actually earned. You tell yourself next cycle will be different. It wasn't different last year. It probably won't be different this year either.
But here's what nobody has told you yet: that review was never a verdict on you. It was a mirror — showing you exactly how good you already are, and exactly how long a toxic workplace intends to keep benefiting from it before they ever let you rise.
You don't need one more "atta girl." You need a plan of your own.
If you are the breadwinner carrying the full financial weight of your household and can't afford to keep waiting on someone else's calendar — this episode is for you.
P.S. — If you know a woman who's the breadwinner in her home, stuck in a toxic workplace, and tired of feeling unvalued no matter how many great reviews she gets — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤

You are not a job title. You are not a performance review. And you are certainly not "meets expectations."
If you have spent years in a toxic workplace, giving everything you have to a company that still somehow leaves you feeling undervalued and unvalued — this episode is going to hit different.
Because here's the truth, friend...
You keep waiting to feel ready. Waiting for the fear to go away. Waiting until you have a business idea that feels big enough, polished enough, safe enough to actually leave for.
But here's what nobody has told you yet: you already have everything you need. The decision-making. The leadership. The communication. The ability to perform under pressure while everyone else falls apart. That is not just a resume. That is a consulting practice, already built inside you, just waiting to be named.
You don't need a new idea. You need to see what has been there the entire time.
If you have ever felt unvalued despite doing everything right — this episode is for you.
P.S. — If you know a woman who feels undervalued in her toxic workplace and is quietly dreaming about her own corporate to CEO moment — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤

Your title is not your identity.
In a corporate world obsessed with climbing higher, earning more, and collecting fancier titles at the end of your name... your sense of self quietly gets buried underneath it all.
If you are a Christian woman who has poured everything into your corporate career — and somewhere along the way stopped knowing who you are outside of it — this episode is for you.
Because here is what nobody tells you when you decide to leave:
The hardest part of leaving corporate is not the money.
It is the identity crisis waiting for you on the other side.
If you have ever tied your worth to your job title — this episode is for you.
In today's episode you will discover:
→ Why high-achieving women lose themselves inside corporate culture — and never see it coming
Here is what I know for sure:
The woman God created you to be is not the woman in the corner office.
She is the woman who said YES to her calling — even when it was terrifying.
That is the woman this episode is for.
And that is the woman you already are.

Because here's the truth friend...
You have been getting ready to get ready.
You told yourself you would launch when the website was done. When the niche was clear. When you felt more confident. When you had more money saved. When the kids were older. When the timing was right.
And here you are. Still in corporate. Still giving your best hours to someone else's dream. Still waiting for a green light that is never coming.
Sound familiar?
That is exactly what we are breaking today.
If perfectionism has been keeping you from building the coaching or consulting business you know you are called to build — this episode is for you.
Inside I break down:
🖤 Why perfectionism is not a personality trait — it is procrastination wearing a productivity mask
Because here is what I know to be true...
Your company has been monetizing your expertise for years.
You do not need a perfect niche. You do not need a finished website. You do not need one more course.
You need one person who has a problem you already know how to solve. That is the whole business to start.
You are a leader. At home and at work. You have been leading, coaching, and delivering your whole career. And you absolutely have what it takes to make this happen.
But you have been using perfectionism as procrastination. And that stops today.
P.S. — If you know a woman who is the breadwinner in her home and she has been quietly dreaming about leaving corporate to build her own business — share this episode with her. Your share could be the moment everything changes for her. 🖤

Inside, I break down:
🖤 The 3 financial traps that keep Christian women stuck in corporate — and why they feel so convincing
Because here's what I know to be true...
Every day you stay is not caution. It is a choice.
What if God is asking you to let go so He can give you something greater?

The life you keep daydreaming about at your desk? It is not a fantasy. It is a decision.
And you can make it today. 🙌

You are good at your job. You have the title, the salary, and the LinkedIn profile to prove it.
And you cannot shake the feeling that you were made for something more.
You have spent years building your career, developing your expertise, solving problems, leading people, and making someone else’s business successful.
What if it is time to use everything you have learned to build something of your own?
Welcome to The Corporate Exit — the podcast for women who are ready to turn their corporate experience into a business and create an exit on their own terms.
I’m Holly Powell, Corporate Exit Strategist and former corporate leader who walked away from a 20-year career to build a life and business outside of corporate.
I know what it is like to feel the pull toward something different — and have absolutely no idea how to turn that feeling into a plan.
That is what we do here.
Each week, we will talk about how to uncover the business already hiding inside your experience, take action before you feel completely ready, build something people will actually pay for, and create a realistic path out of corporate.
We will talk strategy. We will talk fear. We will talk money, business, purpose, and faith — because building your exit is about more than quitting a job. It is about building what comes next.
You do not need another year of thinking about it.
It is time to take action.
Build your business. Create your exit.
Welcome to The Corporate Exit.
