Summary
While medical education has attracted the attention of historians, less work been done on dental education. This paper will draw on the recent monograph, Prevention is Better Than Cure: History of the Cork University Dental School and Hospital, 1913-2013, completed for the school‟s centenary celebration last year. It will survey the dental school student experience at University College Cork during the school’s first seven decades. The dental school‟s general evolution as a learning institution will be summarized. Special note will be taken of the experience of women students, political activism by the student body, and some aspects of dental student social life.
