Dr. Paul Ferris, a brilliant but emotionally cold psychologist who has spent years researching the criminal mind. Frustrated by theory alone, Ferris decides to take his work further—not in a lab, but in real life.

He chooses a subject: Roger Hillman, a quiet, seemingly normal young man who once attempted suicide but recovered with no memory of the event. Ferris moves Roger into his home under the pretence of rehabilitation.
