Let’s review some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 21st Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Isaiah 66:18-21

  • God will gather nations from every language to come and see the glory of the Lord.
  • They will gather in Jerusalem, the holy mountain, and bring an offering to God.
  • Psalm 117:1-2

    • “Go out to all the world and tell the Good News.”
    • All people will praise the Lord who is steadfast in his kindness and fidelity.
    • 2nd Reading – Hebrews 12:5-7,11-13

      • We endure our trials as discipline that comes from the Lord.
      • While discipline often includes pain, it strengthens and trains us to carry on.
      • Gospel – Luke 13:22-30

        • When asked if only a few people will be saved, Jesus urges his disciples to strive to enter through the narrow gate.
        • The Lord says that people will come from the four corners of the earth and recline at table in the kingdom of God.
        • Mass Readings – 21st Sunday of the Year (#123)
