Let’s review the themes that we discover in the Mass readings for the 25th Sunday of the Year.

1st Reading – Amos 8:4-7

  • Amos calls out those who cheat and steal from the poor.
  • The Lord has sworn that this injustice will never be forgotten.
  • Psalm – 113:1-2,4-8

    • “Praise the Lord, who lifts up the poor.”
    • The Lord, enthroned in heaven, raises up the lowly and seats them with the princes of his own people.
    • 2nd Reading – 1st Timothy 2:1-8

      • We are exhorted to pray for those in authority, that we might lead a quiet and tranquil life.
      • The one mediator between God and humanity, Jesus Christ, gave himself as a ransom for all.
      • Gospel – Luke 16:1-13

        • Jesus offers a parable to his disciples about a dishonest steward who squandered his master’s property.
        • The Lord tells us that we cannot serve two masters; we must choose between God and mammon.
        • Mass Readings – 25th Sunday of the Year (#135)
