Let’s explore some of the themes that we find in the Mass readings for the 2nd Sunday of Easter.

1st Reading – Acts of the Apostles 5:12-16

  • The apostles, esteemed by the people, perform signs and wonders of healing.
  • Great numbers of men and women become believers in the Lord.
  • Psalm – 118:2-4,13-15,22-24

    • “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his love is everlasting.”
    • Our strength and our courage come from the Lord, and we are glad and rejoice.
    • 2nd Reading – Revelation 1:9-11a,12-13,17-19

      • John experiences a glorious vision of the son of man who tells him to not be afraid, and says, “I once was dead, but now I am alive forever.”
      • John is commanded to write down what he has seen, including what is yet to come.
      • Gospel – John 20:19-31

        • Jesus passes through locked doors and appears to the disciples saying, “Peace be with you.”
        • Thomas is absent from the meeting, and one week later Jesus appears to him and tells him to not be unbelieving, but believe.
