Stumbled, Not Fallen - Audio

Listen Later

Romans 11:11–15 NASB95 11 I say then, they did not stumble so as to fall, did they? May it never be! But by their transgression salvation has come to the Gentiles, to make them jealous. 12 Now if their transgression is riches for the world and their failure is riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their fulfillment be! 13 But I am speaking to you who are Gentiles. Inasmuch then as I am an apostle of Gentiles, I magnify my ministry, 14 if somehow I might move to jealousy my fellow countrymen and save some of them. 15 For if their rejection is the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

The Question: “Has Israel permanently fallen away?”

Paul’s answer: “No, Israel has stumbled but has not fallen to ruin. She’s in step TWO of God’s three step master plan:”

Step 1: Israel’s REJECTION of Christ opened the door for Gentiles to be SAVED.

Step 2:  Observing Gentiles receive the blessings of SALVATION will cause many in Israel to become ENVIOUS and give their lives to Christ.

Step 3:  Israel’s growth to its FULLNESS will result in even greater BLESSINGS for the Gentiles (i.e. the world).

Luke 14:21–23 NASB95 21 “And the slave came back and reported this to his master. Then the head of the household became angry and said to his slave, ‘Go out at once into the streets and lanes of the city and bring in here the poor and crippled and blind and lame.’ 22 “And the slave said, ‘Master, what you commanded has been done, and still there is room.’ 23 “And the master said to the slave, ‘Go out into the highways and along the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that my house may be filled.

Lessons:

1.  God works all things (including OUR SIN) together for our good and His glory.

Romans 8:28 NASB95 28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.

So don’t put a PERIOD where GOD has placed a COMMA!

2. An indirect, EVANGELISTIC consequence of the church being the church is outsiders becoming jealous of our relationship with God and each other and desiring that for themselves.

1 Peter 2:12 NASB95 12 Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles, so that in the thing in which they slander you as evildoers, they may because of your good deeds, as they observe them, glorify God in the day of visitation.

Applying these truths to life:

When our service for the Lord appears FRUITLESS, one source of encouragement is knowing everything we do for the Lord has RIPPLE EFFECTS far beyond what we can see.
