In this episode of the Tonic Accord, Drew and Alex discuss a current issue that is three parts ridiculous, two parts pathetic, and one part worrying. This is the failed “coup” attempt that occurred last Sunday in Venezuela which some foreign policy experts say made the bay of pigs disaster look like D-Day. In this event, Venezuelan authorities said that eight men were killed and two Americans were captured. Nicolás Maduro told the nation that these men “were playing Rambo, they were playing hero.” Drew and Alex look into the chaotic details of this failed coup. They also discuss Jordan Goudreau, a former member of the US Army special forces, who started the private security company “Silvercorp” which seems to have been responsible for the events. They break down the carelessness of Goudreau and turn the discussion into a larger argument about the risks of relying on private security forces in combat zones. This may have been a ridiculous and stupid attempt at a coup, but what could be next?
