The Subclass 837 Visa, also known as the Orphan Relative (Onshore) visa, is a permanent Australian visa for orphaned children under 18. It allows them to live with eligible relatives already in Australia.

Subclass 837 Visa holders enjoy key benefits, such as permanent residence, unlimited study and work rights, and access to Medicare and the public healthcare system. They can later apply for Australian citizenship when eligible and sponsor other family members for permanent residency.
Applicants must be under 18, single, and in Australia when applying and when the visa decision is made. They must hold, or have last held, a valid substantive visa (not a Transit visa) and apply within 12 months of that visa ending. Parents must be deceased, permanently unable to care, or missing and unlocatable.
Sponsors must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen. They must be settled in Australia and approved by the Department of Home Affairs. Eligible relatives include siblings (including step), grandparents (including step), and aunts or uncles (including step).
Fees for the Subclass 837 Visa are AUD 1,980 for the main applicant. Additional applicants over 18 pay AUD 990, while those under 18 pay AUD 485. Applicants must also pay for health exams and police checks. There is no fixed processing time, but a Bridging Visa A usually allows the child to remain in Australia while the application is assessed.
