The Son of God took on flesh for two reasons: to be our substitute and to be our sacrifice. Seeing that we need both -- substitute and sacrifice -- helps us better understand Jesus' saving work. The work includes more than his death on the cross; it began the moment he was born under the law and obeyed it perfectly in our place.
