What happens when a city or a people are TOO sinful? What if your city is plagued with gun violence, drugs, and prostitution? How are we to respond? At what point is a city or a people not worth saving?
Revelations 2:12-17
Pergamos: A city where SIN is king.
Pergamos is located on a sharp rugged hill rising 1,000 feet
above the surrounding plain. With its public buildings built on
terraces on a steep hillside and multiple temples as part of its
acropolis, Pergamos was one of the most beautiful cities in its
time.
The city had numerous temples dedicated to Greek deities as
well as Egyptian deities.
Here’s what Jesus declared about the city in Revelations 2:13 (NKJV)
13 “I know your works, and where you dwell, where Satan’s
throne is. And you hold fast to My name, and did not deny My
faith even in the days in which Antipas was My faithful martyr,
who was killed among you, where Satan dwells. (NLT: in
Satan’s city)
SATAN'S CITY
So why was there still a CHURCH in Pergamos??
Because disciples of Jesus obeyed his Great Commission:
Matthew 28:19a (NKJV)
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, ...
