Meanwhile, you're working hard to gain trust and build credibility... and your videos are getting a few thousand views, and your follower count isn't exploding. What gives? Do you copy their strategies?
Here's the difference: it's all in your goal. Is your goal to:
➡️ become a 'medical influencer' and gain brand deals? (Think the dentist that has videos sponsored by Colgate.)
➡️ grow your practice - generate local patientsIf your goal is the first, then yes there is an element of polarity that contributes to going 'viral' and gaining followers en mass.
If your goal is - like most doctors we work with - simply to grow your practice and patient base locally, then your strategy is going to be much different than these influencer doctors or providers. Harvard psychologists say that we as humans instantly judge someone by:
✅ do I like you? (warmth)
✅ do you care about me? (attentiveness)
✅ can I trust you? (credibility)
This certainly applies to our scroll and the content we put out there. Showing your passion on social media and giving your audience what they need to make this three part judgement is what will connect with real people in your community who will become real patients in your doors. In contrast, you don't necessarily have to win this same judgement to gain a follow if you're looking to influence - in that case the more shocking, surprising and polarizing you are the better! Your audience is only following you for your content and would never choose you as their provider - and that's ok, because that's not the goal.
