Lets talk about success, excellence and potential.

The human body has so much potential…

If all the muscles in the body combined to lift an object, it could lift something over a ton.

Over the last 100 years we have gotten faster beyond our wildest imaginations in running, swimming, jumping..

we have also gotten fatter. The heaviest we can get is 1400 pounds. 

The human eye can detect over one million colors.

Our minds are beyond the capabilities of most of our own rationalizations. We can remember over 1 million gigabytes. We truly have not capitalized on our potential in most areas of our life. 

But how do we maximize our potential. 

and to be honest this has always been a deep desire of mine. I want to reach my potential in physical, mental and spiritual abilities… what a horrible thought to get to heaven and realize I was capable of so much more. 

 What is success… well as soon as you ask that question the problem arises of simply “what is success” Right? I mean what is success to me may not be what you view as success…

So what is success… now you may not agree with me, but thats the point behind this definition of success. Ok here we go: Success is measuring yourself against other people. 

Now you say, but I can measure myself against losers and seem like a success. - YEP! AND you can measure yourself against the elite in any area and feel like a loser. So it is up to you to understand that success is not the point.

*all this to tell me that? - you bet. 

Because here is where we are going. 

Excellence is measuring yourself against your potential. Excellence over success, moves you closer to your potential. 

If I simply try to do things the best I can… not perfection, we are not shooting for perfection (that is a lose lose situation) but rather working towards excellence… getting better and better… that is the catalyst - the engine if you will to tapping our potential.

I love what Jim Rohn said years ago… why make a million dollars? Because of what it will make out of you as you try to make a million dollars. 

When God looks at you what does he see? 

you probably think disappointment or sin or judgement or disapproval - but I think scripture points to the fact that he sees potential. 

Genesis 1:26 in the Amplified Bible which says:

“Then God said, “Let Us (Father, Son, Holy Spirit) make man in Our image, according to Our likeness [not physical, but a spiritual personality and moral likeness]; and let them have complete authority. . .”

The Living Bible in Genesis 1:26 says:

“Then God said, `Let us make a man—someone like ourselves, to be the master of all life upon the earth and in the skies and in the seas.”

Now thats potential! 

Get your eyes off of success and onto potential.
