KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • My meltdown wasn’t a serious one, I just got hacked off with management leadership – in 15 years I’d only had one good boss – and quit without anything to go on to. I then drove around the Scottish countryside for two weeks to clear my head. When I came back my girlfriend at the time asked me what I really wanted to do, that really got me thinking about what was really important to me. So, I took a psychology degree and a masters in change, performance and leadership.
  • The practical psychology where you’re understanding the human condition, which is at the heart of my book – Success Is A Mind Game. I’d been introduced to that about 10 years before I wrote the book and it changed the way I viewed life. I realised that I’d messed my life up by how I thought about situations, especially if things didn’t turn out the way I thought they should.
  • As we get out of a downward spiral of thinking our state comes back up as well towards being more present. It can be as simple as reading a joke, going to have a cup of tea or coffee and really concentrating on the taste and the flavours in your mouth.
  • I was trying to help people translate what they’re reading into an experience, so they learn to notice things and reflect on that to make their own sense. Don’t try to think to much about things, listen for a feeling, see if it shifts how you feel. Hopefully you’ll feel more calm and connected. When our mind quietens down, we naturally get more creative. Our feelings are an infallible guide for our internal state of mind, we can’t manufacture them or make them be one thing if they’re something else.

BEST MOMENTS

‘I want to help people have a better experience at work and be even more effective.’

‘I started seeing the links between golf and business and my experience, going back to the game with my new understanding transformed my game. I was able to be in it, present, not thinking about anything else.’

‘The mind is not bad or good, it’s a tool. Like our intellect.’

‘We need to unlearn and re-discover a lot of things we know intuitively. When kids get upset their parents distract them and give them something else to do or a bit of attention, as adults we forget that that’s all we need as well.’

ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.
