On 15 April 2023, fighting erupted between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), mainly in Khartoum, the capital, Omdurman town, and Merowe city in Northern state. Fighting rapidly spread to cities in other states, such as Nyala (South Darfur state), Al Fasher (North Darfur state), Al Obied (North Kordofan), and Ag Geneina (West Darfur state). As at 29 April, fighting had killed at least 410 civilians and injured more than 2,000, with numbers likely to increase as the fighting continues.
