Sudden Sam McDowell, a MLB player & starting pitcher from 1961 to 1975, most notably for the Cleveland Indians.  Following his "retirement", McDowell's drinking increased to the point where it cost him his marriage. His wife left him, taking their two children with her, leaving him desolate and broke.
