Suffering does not diminish your character it builds it. In this world, the Bible says, you will have trouble but rejoice because Jesus has overcome the world. All about suffering it's a part of the process that produces purpose. No process no purpose. No one cooks a great meal without taking the time to prepare it so that it can be ready for it's intended purpose. Suffering is simply the seasoning that God uses to humble us, shape us, and to prepare us for His purpose.
