Today’s Scripture:
Philippians 3:10 KJV
that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
When you work out to get stronger and gain power, it comes at a cost. You don't just go to the gym and start to experience muscle growth and get stronger instantly. No. It takes time, patience, and suffering. It takes pain. What do I mean by suffering? I'm glad you asked. When you start building muscles and lifting weights, the muscle breaks down, and in the breaking process, you experience pain, soreness, stiffness, aches, and pain because in order to build that strength and power, the muscle must expand.
Muscle expands after breaking. What happens is that the muscle fibers in the body become completely fatigued, and there are what's called microscopic tears; these tears are essential for muscle growth; without them, the muscle does not grow. So here's the famous statement: no pain, no gain. Muscle growth happens when the body repairs the micro-tears, adding amino acids, which cause the muscle to grow in size. Thus, there is a process to gaining muscle that's called the breaking point when muscles hurt, but if you want the power and the strength, you must continue to push and work to see the growth.
In our text, Paul says, " I want to know him in the power of his Resurrection and in the fellowship of his sufferings. " Paul wants power, but he also wants to share in the suffering because he understands that without the suffering, there's no power. No pain, no gain. If you break down your muscles when you work out to get stronger and gain power, it doesn't just happen. You had to endure the pain of training and breaking the muscles down. Jesus knew that his cross was a gift to elevate him and to bring power over Hades, death, and grace.
I wonder how much more we would achieve if we would embrace the suffering, embrace the muscle tearing, endure the hate, the people talking about us, those who turn their backs on us, and those who try to discourage us and give our focus to God. This is the process of power. Power comes through pain. Jesus knew this, and so the Bible says, for the joy set before him, what joy? The spitting in his face, the piercing of his side, the mockery, the thorns on his head? His eventual death? No, joy was the power. He knew that suffering led to power!
Today, let's not shy away from our sufferings but embrace them; in embracing them, we get to know Christ and experience his power! Power over death, Hades, and the grave. Power to heal the sick and overcome our struggles. Suffering produces power. Go through it and know that growth will occur at the end, and you will have power.
