In 1977, Jim Jones promised almost 1,000 people a utopian community based on love and equality, deep in the Guyanese forest which he called 'Jonestown'. What had started as a progressive church advocating for racial and economic equality, ended in a controlling and manipulative cult which cost over 900 people their lives.
